In 2020, Roland Defrancesco, host of the Bio Chalets Alpegg, the Alpegg Honey Factory. The organic beekeeping business now comprises 15 bee colonies, which are kept in Waidring in the heart of the Kitzbühel Alps. By distributing the bee colonies across the four best apiary sites in this Tyrolean climatic health resort, the honey acquires an incomparably aromatic flavour. The locations include the Alpegg Organic Chalets in the town centre, the “Steinbruch” near a moorland area, the "Struberer Bienenalm", and the Talsenalm at a good 1,000 metres above sea level. At the Talsenalm, you’ll also find a special bee tree called the Schiffertree.

Roland Defrancesco, our host and beekeeper at Alpegg Bio Honigmanufaktur, is more than just a beekeeper. He is a visionary, a protector of bees and their biggest fan! His expertise and dedication make each of our honeys a masterpiece of nature. Our Demeter honey is among the very best in the whole of Tyrol. The quality, flavour, purity and appearance of our first-class organic honey have even won over Tyrol’s honey experts. In 2021, our organic beekeeping business was awarded the gold medal with the maximum possible points for our unique organic honey from Waidring. At the awards for the best honeys in Austria , our forest honey achieved the maximum number of points in the categories of taste, sensory evaluation and consistency. It only narrowly missed out on the overall victory due to the assessment of the label design and was awarded the silver medal.
In 2022, organic beekeeper Roland Defrancesco completed the Demeter Austria course and has since been working with his bees according to this holistic, sustainable and symbiotic philosophy. Enjoy a delicious slice of honey on bread every morning during your break at the
